The Association for Women in Mathematics hosts an annual essay contest on “Biographies of Contemporary Women in Mathematics.” The contest consists of a 500-1,000 word biographical essay on a woman working in a mathematical field. The essay is to be submitted online by February 27, 2010. Details can be found on the AWM Web site:

Besides Moanalua High’s mathematics teachers, I have two friends who are willing to be interviewed. Rachael is a former mechanical engineer for Boeing who is now studying at Hawaiʻi Pacific University for her Master in Education degree. Joanne has a Master of Science degree in Statistics from Georgetown University, and is a career biostatistician. I can also attempt to put you in contact with various mathematics professors at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
